Dunscroft Welfare Blues V Wolverines
Dunscroft Welfare Blues 0 Wolverines 4
This was the last league game of the season and the blues were looking to do the league double over a very good Wolverines outfit. The game started brightly and both sides looked to pass the ball about and move it around. In a very even first half, the Blues created a number of very good chances but could not find the target. As the half was drawing to a close, Wolverines won a corner, and despite the efforts of the Blues ‘keeper, the ball dropped nicely for the away side to tuck the ball in. Within a few minutes, the blues allowed the wolverines a lot of space on the edge of the penalty area and the Wolverines hammered a low shot into the corner to take a 2-0 half time lead. The Blues continued to create chances, but were leaving themselves short at the back and as the Wolverines they had an extra man who hammered it to the roof of the net and despite a great save by the Blues keeper, the power of the shot took the ball into the net. The Blues attacked and kept their confidence, but all shots were either off target or hit straight at the Wolverines keeper who had a quiet game. It was only a matter of time before the Wolverines broke clear again, and the striker drew out the keeper and struck a shot with the outside of his boot into the bottom corner at an acute angle to score a brilliant goal. In a game that could have easily been won, missed chances and poor finishing meant that the Blues had been beaten 4-0 for the second consecutive week, despite creating enough chances to win both matches.
Well done to the Blues players Karl, Jake, Brad, Mitchell, Ethan, Lewis, Nathan, Patrick, Callum, and ‘keeper and “secret weapon” David Gravel. Congratulations to the manager Steve Gill for the improvement of the team over the past few seasons and a big thanks to everyone who has helped and been involved with the Blues this season.
